I Will Flap My Wing

I will flap my wings,
Even though those political hounds,
Broke it,
Stampede upon it,
When they walk their walk of glory,
To the assembly grounds.

I will flap my wings,
Even though I am bleeding,
From the wounds,
Of my rebellion,
For my blood is the rain my leaders love,
Their gardens die when I am healing.

I will flap my wings,
Even though it’s young,
The feathers few,
But my ambitions grew,
So the old men made a pact and made sure,
I am not strong.

I will flap my wings,
Even though their blaring gong,
Ignites the air,
But I shall sail through fire,
For I will never stay to,
Listen to their miserable song.

I will flap my wings,
Flailing on the ground or flying,
For I love,
Too dearly,
The Nigeria I was taught to,
Never stop trying.
