How Much Is Zakat Fitr In Kg?

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“The Messenger of Allah (SAW) made Zakat al-Fitr, one saa’ of dates or one saa’ of barley, obligatory on the Muslims, slave and free, male and female, young and old, and commanded that it should be given before the people went out to pray.” (Al-Bukhaari, 1407)

For practical purposes, one sa’a is equivalent to a specific quantity. In many regions, this translates to one and a half mudu per person. Alternatively, it can be measured as approximately 2.4 to 3 kilograms of grain.

It is obligatory for every financially able Muslim to pay Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of themselves and their dependents. This includes one’s spouse, children, and any other individuals for whom they are responsible, such as parents or close relatives under their care.

The Zakat Fitr calculator/converter on this page will help you figure out the measurements. Simply put in the number of people you’re responsible for, choose if you want to use kilograms, pounds or mudu, and the calculator will give you the result instantly.
